Jake is a Goldendoodle and at nine years old , both he and I are a bit cautious about falling on ice. However our winter walks are worth it.

Winter Walk

Jake is anxious a bit today
Been a while since our last walk
The snow has mostly gone away
He looks up at me as we talk

We're both concerned about the ice
Last nights freeze has set the slush
To random slip traps with a nasty price
Old bones snap meeting ground in a rush

So eyes on the walk and not on me
Our easy steps with rhythmic fashion
Give way to caution moving tensely
Over this patch of black obsidian

A bare dry sidewalk just ahead
A safe place for an easy gait
We both arrive there releasing dread
To stop and talk of cheating fate

Nice rhymes Joe. I was waiting for the part where you both go slipping and sliding off into the scenery. Goldendoodle sounds like a cross between a James Bond villain and a male porn star :)

Such a beautiful poem. I'm blessed to have read it. There's peace and gentleness in its voice.

Mans best friend and friends in adversity, you understand each other so well, beautifully expressed.
