Take a guess? Though I believe everyone has their own perceptions... When I first wrote this poem(ages ago) I wrote it thinking of that part of our soul that helps us fight fears, conquer sorrow, and bring hope to us and disappear till we need him again

Who is he?

As the day darkens
And the sun becomes afraid
When men return to homes
To the warmth of family
As the air becomes chilly
And is no longer with breath
A boy stands tall
With his head facing
The bloody white demon
Soaked in sorrow and sin
He looks around to find
Just gray ghouls of past

He stands there to
Face our demons and
Kill our fears. But how
Can he do this alone?
Mother nature blissfully slumbers
Papa sun shakes in his boots
Humanity has long vanished
From this battle ground
But this is his fate
To clear the dark in us
So once more may
The sun rise and shine

What is he?
Who is he?

I like the language and structure of this. The descriptions are strong and finite. The question... universal. As you say, there are many answers all valid

Well written and well thought out.
