for laurie bird

whatever it was

or whatever they say it was

no one knows

though we all wonder

you would be sixty-five

instead you are eternal

it seems fair trade

happy for you

sad for us

but not knowing

is not easy

questions go unanswered

and will always go unanswered

on the other hand

we know

we know because

there but for the grace of . . .

A well-written requiem for Lauire Bird. I remember her from Annie Hall.

To be remembered is the greatest homage. Well done.

She left us too early. I saw her in Two-Lane Blacktop. Nice she is still thought of.
