1st of April is day of humor , people make jokes between each other. They start the day with joke or lier but in good way and in Bulgaria, have festival in town called Gabrovo. There they make concurse for the best joke of the year and people being nominated. This festival is also to celebrate the day of that town. People dressed in national folcklore dresses of that region and singing and dansing tradition songs and dances from that region too. Have open market with BBQs and different swings and sntractions. Also food and drinks which are populiare for that part of the country. It is very interesting and the food very nice and teasty too. This is one of the first Spring festivals during the year. Gabrovo have nice history too and it is in the monthain and part of the town still have old style houses. Have museum of the humor and satira. Near by have few small towns with history such as Tryavna, Elena, Etyra and Dryanovo in the last one have manastiry which is historical place. I hope you like my short story about 1st of April.

Dear Kathy, I found the site, which is in my language and traslated, for you. I will traslate some of the jokes also. My country have big history and cultural riches and folklore;the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth.

Thank you for sharing some information about the culture and tradition of Gabrovo, Bulgaria regarding its April 1 festival. It sounds like a beautiful, fun place to visit. I didn't know that April Fools day was such a big tradition in other parts of the world. Perhaps I should do some research on it and find out where the tradition started. I just never gave it much thought. You have inspired me to do so. I enjoyed your story.
