Winter's Tale BY ANN WOOD PART 3
The next day, the weather was nice, and after breakfast, we got ready for a picnic at the zoo. I made sandwiches, washed fruit, and made homemade lemonade. I ordered muffins, mini pizzas, and croissants from the bakery next door, as well as homemade cookies. I made a thermos of coffee and hot chocolate for the kids. I called the lawyer's wife to say that we would be over to pick them up in an hour. The kids were very happy to be out for a walk again. After picking up the orders from the bakery, we headed to the home of the Garrett family, that's the last name of our lawyer. Norma Garrett is a woman in her thirties, mother of two children, Lassie and Lena, and her husband and Adam are a wonderful family. Norma is pregnant with their third child. We all gathered in the minibus, Allan was sleeping in his basket and the three girls were sitting next to each other, Norma and Adam in the seat next to them. Norma and she had packed a picnic basket, a ball and toys for the children to play with. At about ten-thirty we set off for the zoo, and we all enjoyed the nice weather and the view around us.After an hour we parked the minibus in the zoo parking lot. I bought the tickets and went in to look at the animals. We stopped at each cage and the kids asked us about the animals. At about 1:00 PM we got back to the minibus and headed to the nearby park for our picnic. The park is on the shore of a lake. I parked and got out to unload our picnic bags. Adam and Norma spread out the two blankets and put a tablecloth in the middle and we started putting the food in. We all sat down and started eating. I fed Allan first and gave a plate of sandwiches to Amelia. The weather was very nice and we enjoyed our picnic. We ate and talked about different things in life. After the girls had eaten they decided to play Uno. And Allan fell into a sweet nap. The kids were playing around us and we were busy. Adam was working on his laptop. The sun was shining and we enjoyed it, Allan slept until three in the afternoon. The girls got along very well and are now best friends. Amelia, nursing next to me, called me mom for the first time. You are our new mom, but I will always remember our mother Marie-Anne, and I will talk about her to Allan when he grows up. We have two new mothers now, and we love you very much. Then she went and hugged Cathy and said I love you mom.
We stood in the park until about five in the evening, and we started packing. When Allan suddenly said mommy, we all turned to him, and he stretched out his arms to me and said mommy again. I took him in my arms and hugged him, and my eyes filled with joy. We loaded the luggage into the van and drove to the Garrett family's house. On the way, Allan cooed and repeated mommy, mommy, until he fell asleep again. Around six in the evening, we got home, had dinner with the sandwiches that were left, and then I bathed Allan. Amelia was watching TV like a child, and Cathy was reading today's newspaper with a cup of tea in her hand. I sat with them and poured myself some tea, Amelia asked to drink tea too, so I poured tea for her too. I took a magazine to read while she watched TV. Around eight I bathed Amelia and put her to bed. Allan had long since fallen asleep, tired from the long day outside. Then I went downstairs to watch The Cleaner Lady, a new series that I watch with Cathy. After the movie was over, I washed the glasses and said good night to Cathy, and went upstairs to see the kids and go to bed. Before that, I took a quick shower. Around eleven I went to bed with a book in my hand, I didn't feel sleepy yet and read until I fell asleep.
