colin whistles

colin   in the distance   whistles a tune

breeze carries it our way

melodious   cinematic   images form

on the horizon   an appaloosa sky   thundering

ominous   dark   the plot thickens   the untoward

advances   shadows hold secrets

the herd wheels   the stallion rears

his mane wild   the mares

paw and snort   break into a gallop

hooves beat the earth raising clouds of dust

over the rise   beyond our hearing   lightning

silently illuminates the clouds

the air becomes ionic   the mares stampede

all is in commotion   all humanity quakes   is shattered

colin stands   stretches   scans the sky

mops the back of his neck with a red bandana

the whistling stops   the herd slows to an easy lope

the stallion finds a shady willow grove

the mares turn to grazing bunch grass

still the lightning flashes   distantly   still i hear the melody

the chuff of horses keeping time   i taste rain

though the sky above is yet clear

I like the scene you've painted with short, almost terse phrases. I think the enjambments work well in that word-painting as one thought jumps over the other line.
