Sometimes I enjoy being alone; alone with my own thoughts. There are other times I can feel so lonely and I struggle to find the difference between these two states. When does being alone cross over into being lonely?

To Be Alone...

Walking down this care worn street
Hearing my footsteps fall, alone
Echo's of the past perhaps
taking me into a future unknown

Shadowed corners that call my name
The street light winks as if it knows
All is bright in the times to come
Comfort found in my solitude

And here I am, but no longer I'll be
As the future mingles with my past
Head held high and stare fixed ahead
A friends handshake my release

Walking down this care worn street
Taking me into a future unknown
Shadowed corners that call my name
Comfort found in my solitude

And here I am, but no longer I'll be
A friends handshake my realease.

I really enjoyed this piece. It can be a blurred line loneliness. I like the way the final line of each stanza has a different thought.
