Finally Scotland has decided that the draconian lockdown can be eased. One week from now we can visit family and friends but outdoors and 2 metres apart. Still, thankful for small mercies at least.

As the door opens...

A whimpering creak from within the dark
An opening door in its shadowed form
A ray of light, or is that hope?
Could we be returning to some kind of "norm"

The barrier once locked now opens
Blinking eyes struggle in new found light
Tentative steps into the danger zone
But the Government tells us it's alright

Social distance must still prevail
But I long to embrace her again
The risk of Covid is still too great
For my mother, the rules must remain

A new kind of normal we all must learn
Gone are those times we all knew before
Stronger together we will find the road
As we take the first steps through that door

I too wish you luck. I hope common sense prevails.

You've found a poetic way of expressing a very unpoetic time in our history.
