Prompted by a photo of the setting sun that I took

Constant

I am a constant
Behold my size
Each evening I set
Each morning I rise

Over 4 billion years
I've watched over the earth
and your brothers and sisters
I was there are your birth

I've risen on dinosaurs
Risen on men
On tyrants and dreamers
On mountains and glens

I've risen on plagues
On famine and war
The rooster's crow
The lion's roar

I'll outlive the last of the whole human race
I'll miss burning your backs and warming your face
When your time is over and nature takes hold
I will rise on the forests and they too will behold

For I am a constant
The world in my debt
Each morning I rise
Each evening I set
