a gift, a question, an answer

we have a mockingbird living near us.

she's crazy, boy crazy.

or, he's crazy, besotted,

either way . . .

living near us, with a delightful, and absurd, repertoire of songs,

that causes me to laugh, and offer praise and gratitude.

as well, the aerial antics are a show unto themselves.

it's simply unaccountable that one bird

can come up with so many ways of throwing itself

so uninhibitedly,

so completely,

so sincerely,

into the mating game.

i step livelier on my walks when i hear the songs and watch the antics.

i am uplifted, heartened, happier for it,

which, i might suggest, is no small thing.

~

what do you want to do tonight?

go to paris.

Birdwatching is a "perfect type of perfect pleasure" to borrow Oscar Wilde's words. The mockingbird is indeed an object of curiosity, fascination, and enjoyment.
