tea leaves

gathered at the bottom of the cup

tell a tale yet to be told

i read of sunrise on the patio

of distant vistas   of coastal hills

of words shared among friends

of a reunion   of sorts   tentatively

i read hints of a new-beginning

of a sea-change   of hope revisited

of wrongs righted   incrementally

the leaves settle into a tale

i want very much to see   and were i

a different person the leaves

would tell a different tale   my tea

my leaves   my tale   this is what i read

this is a lovely poem about reading the tea leaves. never thought about tea leaves telling so many stories before. that conceit is charming and particularly effective.
