What we considered as a normal way of life may be gone forever. How do we create a new normal though?

Is this Normal?

Social distance that rules the day

Separation in measured lines

A hand-shake is now a thing of the past

Where ever we turn are the Warning signs

To hug a friend has become taboo

A kiss on the cheek is so out of bounds

A pat on the back to say "well done"

Brings about the most disapproving sounds

Such regimental rules  that apply

In the workplace it's so very formal

The casual banter and laughing out loud

Are forbidden in this new kind of "normal"

Could this be the future we have to share

Must we accept it and just "move along"?

We're social creatures but this "normal" denies

Those forbidden feelings we still hold strong.

Sadly true but there is hope. The 1918 flu pandemic demanded the same challenges from everyone but humanity’s need for touch came back eventually. Nicely written with a craftsman’s careful adherence to form and structure.

Things are changing, and I suppose this is the (new) normal. You've said it well in your verse. :)
