Late Summer

Tha backyard pines sigh
Moving to easy undulating
North winds rich with dry air
Drawing moisture
From overripe fruit and
Blossoms of impatiens
Caught by surprise
In the unpredicted heat
Of a capricious afternoon sun
While lush grass waves
Mottled green nourished
By last night’s inch of rain

This is very nice, Joe. It fills me with longing as, here in eastern Nebraska, it has rained very little this summer.
