winter scares me

i am a sun worshipper

winter scares me

hot weather suits me

soothes me

i shiver all winter

pile on the blankets

it makes no difference

i crave the sun

~

i hear that santa fe winters

tend to be sunny

but cold!

that dry mountain air

that high elevation

but, oh, the sky is blue!

~

skin lotion and vodka

are on the list

will our cowboy house

hold heat

will our blue door

protect us

~

there is excitement in the air

talk of the slopes

thank you, but no

maybe rum

~

marketa makes no concession

to winter

dresses in wool

year 'round

except when she doesn't

is prone

to practicality

except when she isn't

~

i am bearing down

steeling myself

shoulders already hunched

against the cold

and it's only october

155 days until spring

~

thanksgiving

christmas

new year's

january!

february!

help!

~

if only the nights

weren't so long

and so black

and so formidable

oh, santa fe

what were we thinking!?

Perhaps it's because I live in winterland ;), but I actually look forward to colder temps. In saying that though, I do identify with the "Help!" section for its length! I like the warmth of sun, but summer heat, no thank you. Funny how opposite our preferences can be. Really enjoyed this, you write so well. Thanks.
