Advent lights by Ann Wood
Today, along with the birthday of our puppy Rafi, we lit the first candle of our Advent wreath, and with it the first spark, informing us of the coming of the Savior. It is getting colder and colder outside, but it is more important that there is a lot of comfort and warmth, peace and wisdom in our homes and hearts, with which we can think about what we would like and could change in our lives with the coming of Christmas. .
I wish all of us less often to be saddened by sad thoughts, although I know that for many of us, the holidays do not always bring only joy.
Again, I will write a little more about the importance of Advent, and you have a very nice Sunday night and do something good for yourself.
Significance of Advent.
"Advent" - this is an ancient Roman ceremony on the solemn arrival of the Roman emperor.
Historical documents show that around 776 BC, in ancient Greece, a wreath was first used as the "crown" of those athletes who finished first. Later, the Romans adopted this tradition and crowned their military heroes, kings and emperors. Thus, this tradition was adopted by the Western Church and later after the Reformation, preserved in the liturgy of classical Protestant denominations, such as the Lutheran, Methodist, and Anglican churches and other evangelical churches close to them.
Thus, the wreath has found its place in the Christmas holiday. It is a circle of twigs of evergreen plants, a symbol of an endless life.
Traditionally, candles on the gums are purple.
The first candle is called the Candle of Prophecy. It symbolizes the Old Testament prophecies of the Savior's coming. We celebrate the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Savior's coming to earth as an Infant, His coming into our hearts through faith in God's Word, and His Coming in glory to judge all people.
I will share the importance of the other three candles in the next three weeks.
Good shared Sunday night, dear friends, with wishes for good luck and goodies in the coming week!
