Winter Garden

The garden’s now a curious place

Odd plants thrive in lonely splendour

Winter cabbage's french white lattice

Rimmed in brightest brilliant green

Counterpoint beside snow peppered

Filigree on adjacent stark dry stalks

Autumn corn brittle grey long dead

Compost blankets strawberry plants

Whose leaves peek through shyly

With spring promise of summer fruit

Brown birds glean in frenetic dances

Fat squirrel’s leavings there by chance

There is so much beauty in a Winter garden and in your fine poetry.
