Years ago i was away on a business trip over Christmas. My hotel the ancient former Episcopal Palace my room, formerly a monks cell
Christmas Eve Curitiba Brazil 1990
The cell is cool the ceiling domed
Thick cut stone walls terracotta floor
Extends to lush flamboyant gardens
Where once monks prayed rosaries
In the fetid heat of December
Awaiting the Christ child tending
Vivid flowers paths and palms
Mid impossible yellow green birds
The episcopal palace grounds
Red earth damp rich with humus
Fine ground coral pink walkways
In structured formal European
Style amid the wild rainforest of
Curitiba
