Cautionary Tale

There was a time so long ago

Where life was endless Insouciance

But troubles quietly began to grow

Tendrils on my ship of nonchalance

However freedom was a fairytale

I believed would never end

My life sailed on free from detail

My ship’s integrity I failed to attend

Till time and trouble caused a gale

The storm drove fury unabated

My ship struggled vainly to prevail

I shipwrecked on the reef life fated

Like the extended metaphor of ship & shipwreck. Also, the end rhymes work well. :)

A very good work, Josephus. I like the use of the sea as a meterfor.

An excellent cautionary tale. Your nautical analogy echoes Jamsbo's (he chose aviation) poem of a similar nature.

No young person will heed your caution, but all us who have hit a reef or two are nodding our heads.

Well done.
