Today I emersed  myself in the simple joy on honest sweat. Cutting logs into two foot lengths. At my age it takes a lot longer with frequent resting but it feels so elementally  GOOD!

Cutting wood

Wiping sweat from my burning eyes

Sawdust masks in golden stripes

Mahogany face aching thighs

Rest ice water simple delights

Logs stacked in random tossed array

Await my saw in reducing stacks

This sun drenched windy summer day

Cutting wood for the splitting axe

Shirt soaked with sweat from honest toil

Worn jeans torn by an unseen bramble

Gloves piebald with lubricating oil

So alive this day far from life’s babble

Great imagery and the poem brings the scene to life. Very good, I think.

Yes, very good, Joe. Members of Coo & Co are not able to perform such a task, but we are reminded of our FT's older brother using an axe to split logs, so we are able to enter the poem :>)

We particularly like 'Mahogany face' and 'Gloves piebald', but it is all very vivid and vibrant. Good work, Joe :>)

Bravo. For those with a liking for the physical, cutting & splitting is truly one of life's great pleasures.

I love the vigour, the gusto, the energy of this poem. And of course, its lived imagery.
