Century Porch

At sunrise on this century porch

Terracotta tiles cool my elder feet

Filigree surrounds to ease the scorch

Of midday suns promised  heat

Old  gardens clothe it’s perimeter

In purposed random bright bouquets

Day Lilies roses and virginia creeper

Ghost ferns  primrose in shaded arrays

Drawn to this dated cloistered space

Where many others took their ease

Were lovers here in long embrace?

Or, as I, alone in search of peace

A vivid and winsome picture painted here: I like the bouquets that are "purposed" and "random"! And of course, I cherish the wee litany of the flora.

Fine work, Joe. We don't have a tiled porch, but we do have a marble entryway. My son's dog loves to soak up its coolness after she's been outside.

I too have day Lillie's blooming in my garden now, as I look on them from my rainy, wet land in my wellies, I will think of you cooling your feet in the heat on the porch .

Peace is elusive.

This is a lovely poem, beautiful to contemplate the gardens as you've described them.
