Impotence

Spring stutters its way along

In sawtooth fashion temps up and down

Counterpointed by a brazen tocin gong

Of death and damage in Ukrainian towns

I’ve lost my joy of anticipation

Of crocus paperwhites and daffodils

My thoughts held hostage to a savaged nation

Impotent to affect either of these clash of wills

Nature will proceed on its ordained path

Toward summer and its welcome days of warm

While bombs and guns reap the grapes of wrath

The world watches a country wear a crown of thorns

I've really enjoyed your motto
my mind writes checks that my body can't cash"
indeed it took some times before I got the message clear

So true. I like how the poem neatly sums up what we've all been feeling these days. Nicely done, Joe.

That's the word I've been searching for but couldn't find. Thank you.

That and horror.
