Outside of Grand Island, Nebraska
Prairie Grass
Two colors
broadly speaking
excluding subtle hues
tan and blue, earth and sky
late August
sky without clouds.
Atop a rounded hill
on her back
within the tall, rustling grass
looking skyward—a grand island.
For a moment
from this vantage, it is
the entirety of her world—this tall grass
this cloudless blue sky.
