Outside of Grand Island, Nebraska

Prairie Grass

Two colors

broadly speaking

excluding subtle hues

tan and blue, earth and sky

late August

sky without clouds.

Atop a rounded hill

on her back

within the tall, rustling grass

looking skyward—a grand island.

For a moment

from this vantage, it is

the entirety of her world—this tall grass

this cloudless blue sky.

So beautiful. Like the opening of a meaningful movie.

Beautiful! I think the minimalism suits the poem's overall theme very well — as these sparse lines capture the essence of the vastness of nature.

Well done! You've captured the image perfectly, your spare words reflecting its starkness.

Nicely done. The language seems firm, settled, secure.

And that's exactly how I felt when I saw Wyeth's Christina's World for the first time. Wowsers, fabulous how you can stir memories with your writing.
