crushed ice

Years of the cold air in my chest
just barely hanging from the stems of my collarbone
Felt as though my blood had frozen in my veins
Never felt the warmth on my emotionless face

Whenever my heart dared to beat,
I felt the ice that protected it start to crack
The noise like a graceful figure skater
who had finally fell on her bare, glittering back

Smiles of summer and spring,
extended their sun kissed arms out to me
They wove flower crowns and walked barefoot in tall grass
but my blue fingers fumbled, and my feet were fragile like glass
