Kaisarion -a temple then church in Alexandria, parabolani -palliative helpers later assassins, ostraka -a type of roof tile or oyster shells
while the West was in steady wane
local politics were in vain
a future each tried hard to frame
Orestes and Hypatia's side
Cyril and Pete, opposing tide
When on a quiet twilight's eve
mid March Ides and Spring Equinox
parabolani kidnapped her
dragged Hypatia to Kaisaron
there stoned her dead with ostraka
torn limb from limb and later burned
To some it’s all a silly game
this little known history's stain
to others it's all about fame
a few feel its ongoing pain
but dusty tomes to us confide
what others worked so hard to hide

murder at the Kaisarion
When Roman Egypt was aflamewhile the West was in steady wane
local politics were in vain
a future each tried hard to frame
Orestes and Hypatia's side
Cyril and Pete, opposing tide
When on a quiet twilight's eve
mid March Ides and Spring Equinox
parabolani kidnapped her
dragged Hypatia to Kaisaron
there stoned her dead with ostraka
torn limb from limb and later burned
To some it’s all a silly game
this little known history's stain
to others it's all about fame
a few feel its ongoing pain
but dusty tomes to us confide
what others worked so hard to hide
