granny's steinway
after the last GI’s rolled out
after the fires were quelled
after the boys now hollowed
out men ghosted our peace
we brought ourselves to
remember how our toes
were warmed and bellies fed
and life a possible easel
a photo of granny’s Steinway
and a manor no longer there
a dream of gentrified living
another life, another world
later we'll scroll and tap
later we'll fall madly in love
later we'll shed but one tear
in mere gossamer cheer
