A Friend I Didn't Think I had

Me who was mad and ranting,
Never took away his understanding;
Calm, sweet, comforting words,
keep telling me my worth.
Intimidating presence made some gap,
yet his friendly nature didn't stop;
Says his friend's pain, he doesn't laugh at,
heart that cares makes love easy to grasp.
Calms me in my most disappointing time,
I just really thought he was fine.
Didn't expect it was his time to rest,
Could have given him my best.
Now all I have is his memory
from someone I never thought I have
Will never be forgotten,
Will always be missed,
A wonderful person,
a friend in me.

Griffonner The PoetBay support member heart!
Strange. This is the second poem I have read this morning that brings the same feeling into me. In the first I read, I commented that... ....we all will experience grief and I think the depth of grief is directly proportional to the depth of love between the departed and the griever. Sometimes we don't recognise that depth until it is 'too late'."
Doesn't that just fit the situation your fine poem described, too?
Well done. Blessings, Allen
