Hannah, a Portrait
Hannah modeled for George Fuller,
Standing on the prairie in her brown dress,
So that he might capture the essence
Of a stark existence, the pioneers.
The painting is successful.
It evokes a harsh and lonely life.
Hannah complied, and stood, but her mind
Was on work which was going undone.
George Fuller, a nineteenth century
American painter and farmer
Immortalized a young, discerning girl
While painting emptiness, and fear.
