'Where are you going? '
'Who knows? . . . I'm just going.'
—Ken Kesey, 'Sometimes a Great Notion'
~
She sips her coffee
without the taste of freedom.
What do you do
when you leave your husband,
your home, everything but a box of photographs?
What do you do
after you have taken that first step?
The rain,
always the rain—
When the coffee is gone,
when the door closes behind you,
when you step into the rain—what do you do?
She taps the photographs into a neat pile,
leaves them on the table, gets on the bus.
