Reminder : Edit button in comments
Hi everyone,
Just wish to do a reminder on the Edit button on comments when you leave a comment to other authors.
This button was put in place with the sole purpose to provide users the ability to correct spelling or grammar mistakes in their posted comments. It is not, and should not be used, to rewrite a comment that you have left on an author's text.
The reason for this is because when you make a correction, the author of the text is not notified that you made a change to the comment and they could very well miss it.
We didn't include a notification for edits, 'cause we didn't think notifying the author of the text that the commenter corrected some spelling or grammar in their comment was particularly useful information to provide to the author in his/her inbox. We also felt it might be bothersome to receive such notifications seeing as it wouldn't immediately be clear what changes were made. We're open to suggestions.
Please do not use the Edit button to rewrite a comment you posted. Create a new comment if the edits you want to make are not for spelling or grammar mistakes.
Athough we can, we don't wish to programmatically monitor the use of the Edit button, but if we must, we will, of course. We would much prefer though that all members used it as it was meant to be used to avoid confusion.
Of course, it goes without saying, really, but the use of the Edit button for covert harrassment or uncivility toward an author is unacceptable behavior within our community. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, please report it to us.
Thanks for your understanding,
Isabelle
