Lesson 61
A selfish man’s selfish daughterwill not save you, nor will the whims
of whimsy you’ve used to wrap yourself
into the clouds that lifted you (or so you thought),
for none of it
can cure the cruelty with which
you watch yourself in the mirror, and
add another notch to your wrist.
Instead, try looking out with kindness, I mean,
turn your eyes to an iPhone camera,
with the filter on, turning grief to gaiety,
glibness to glamor, and garishness to glory.
All a poet has is words. All a poet can do
is take words and wind them to a willing tale.
The end result is your choice. Will yours
be a happy or sad one? You decide.
