Poem about living every moment of life as if new, with great zest and free from the phantasms of past.

Steelfeather

Walking aimlessly on a lonely lane,
My exhausted mind, in some kind of pain,
With only me and the muted lights,
It was one of those forlorn nights.

Suddenly, I felt a soft soothing breeze
Trying to pacify me put me at ease,
Along came a feather white as snow
It stared at me and refused to go.

The feather moved freely in some kind of dance,
Teasing me, my patience it was trying to lance,
I felt humiliated and in exasperation,
I captured it and imprisoned its celebration.

I held it high as if making a toast,
Ceasing its freedom that it was trying to boast,
I looked at it closer to enjoy its pain,
And I went deep down my memory lane.

The feather reflected the small kid within me,
Who lived freely like waves on a sea.
The child lived every moment to it fullest,
Fearless, care free, merry, and full of zest

The child did fail, get hurt and felt aghast,
Yet he lived free from the phantasms of past.
But he begun to change as he grew older,
Wanted only success, with failures he would smolder.

He ignored living and indulged in vengeances,
Judged every moment with past experiences,
His life was mechanical and devoid of zeal,
He imprisoned his feather with chains of steel.

Every moment now took away a piece of his dream,
His memories would come back at him and scream,
Problems began to pile, but he would try to flee,
Alive, but not living, he transformed into me.

And here I was, holding the captive feather,
Who was none other than my own brother,
Reminding me to live fully, free from shackles,
Opening my eyes to opportunities underlying all obstacles.

Suddenly I smiled as if struck by thunder,
I was about to commit the same old blunder.
With new ardor and optimism I set you free, oh feather,
With a promise in my heart that we will soon be together.

Nice reminder to focus on the present, for a change!

The past is unchangeable, written in stone,
The future is a mystery, deep and unknown.

Welcome to the Bay!
