A return to the issue of Multi posting

Multi Posting by M.A.Meddings

I recently raised the matter of Multi posting and the ethics endemc to that .

A number of members made valid points about the self defeating aspect as far as comments are concerned related to this.

More recently I have had an exchange of PMs with a member who believes that any restriction on the number of posts is tantamount to an unwarrented restriction on what he believes should be a free internet viz 'post what you want when you want at no matter to any others interest'

I believe that to be a selfish attitude to what I think should be a friendly community where each poet whatever there proliferacy or there skill, should be given an equal opportunity on the front page.

I firmly believe that consistantly posting reams of poetry one after the other so that other less prolific members are driven from the front page, is not only greedy but against the interests of this site, in that left unchecked, it will lead to an exodus of less prolific members and therefore to a denegration of a wider and varied membership.

I am therefore calling for a concensus for a voluntary system as previously suggested

This would include a maximum of three posts per day

and an absolute total of ten posts per week.

If you dont agree please say so.

I repeat it should be a voluntary system but if enough members agree i suggest we ask JOF to embody it in the rules of the site

regards Michael A Meddings.

This item is being posted as a word item on the front page to increase coverage.

You make good and logical points. I agree! I often choose to skip those with mulitpostings because I simply do not have the time nor do I think I do justice to the poet by reading so many at once, then commenting. We are a community of writers who should be here as support and encouragment for one another. Our motives should be gracious, honest, and enjoyment of our own and well as other's creativity. regards and thank you... kathy

I concur, Michael. It isn't fair for the multi-poster or the multi-postee, because not as many people read the said poster's work because it becomes annoying almost in a sense, nor is it fair for someone that posts a poem or haiku or something, and it's only up for several hours. I don't know how this rule would go into effect though, and Angie brings about a good point, how will new poets know the limit or rule or courtesy that we are setting up?

Yes I agree...People who multipost, you dont notice their poems because they are all over the place and it becomes more of an irritation than a wanting to read their poems...
So I agree totally that three posts per day is perfect...!!
