You forgot to wait for me at the end of the rainbow

as you promised
The rose pedals on the bed
blew away years ago
Romantic gestures are worth nothing
When the emptiness of the cause
turned the roses black

I wanted to believe that your eyes weren't grey
That your touch couldn't send shivers down my spine
and kill me for a second as I gasped for air
Invincible hands around my neck
A ghost from the future
Trying to nip it in the bud

As you tried to give yourself skin color
with crayons and ink
I was painting pictures
of the feelings I hid in my basement

Thomas Selnes The PoetBay support member heart!
It tells a story for sure, a vivid one at that, despite the antagonist's lack of color.

The last stanza gave me shivers, which is a good sign :D
