lamenting loss

Thick As Thieves

I'm trying to steal a glance
That will tell me I'm wrong.
I'm trying not to see you smile
With friends that once were mine.
I can see you're gone
through eyes as distant as the truth.
Am I just a caricature,
A melding of lines?
Do you look straight past me now
To the new surrounds?
My lifelines are fading, you're leaving too,
You said you'd never go.
So who to blame? Where is the fault?
I'm on the sidelines looking
While you're rolling down the hill,
Feeling weight from warmth.
I'm trying to fight the earth for you,
Fighting all good sense for you
Trying to add cornflour to blood ever-thinning
But in fingers oh so nimble
You hold my hope, my will
So come back, make miracles seen
And we'll rejoice once more
