An old photograph from the 1980's inspired this poem

The Girl At Twenty by M.A.Meddings

Just as beautiful the younger you
Then so dazzling was your smile
And oh how dark those cinnamon eyes
That sparkled with fire and beguiled
But in sadness there seemed
A set to your mouth
And the sorrow I see in your youth
E'en though I would kiss those soft parted lips
I am stunned by the rapture of you
There is soft silken hair just framing your face
A darkening shade on your brow
Had I known you just then
I would love you again
So completely as I even do now

They say a picture can tell more than 1000 words. I say, your words can conjure up a very vivid picture!

wonderful write my michael friend...

pictures and memories evoke these feelings of love and sadness...

perhaps, sadness is subjective? not bad, but necessary...

"you're no one till someone loves you"...

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful... :)))

the power of a picture... that's what keeps ringing in my head... something to hold on to, to bring you to a place that is loved even if not experienced fully...

Your inspiration comes from a picture! You are a true poet. You see into hearts even in photographs. Just beauty and tenderness flows from your pen here. Oh to be that girl in that picture. Does she know that you have written of her? I think not. But you have given me a beautiful poem to rest my eyes upon and to dream of such things of romance, love, and tenderness. Thanks you! Your touch and style is so unique. It reaches down deep into the soul, the heart, and touches them. xx kathy bookmarked
