Written in memory of my time in Baghdad
sunshine and clear skies
and silence all around
- but not for long.
Children play in the street
women do their shopping
men drink coffee in the outside cafes
- but not for long.
A car comes along shouting in arabic
some soldiers drive past
more follow in an armoured column
and then there is a blast.
The air is filled with a flash
then there is the bang
alarms go off everywhere
then there is silence.
Today was another glorious day
sunshine and clear skies
and silence all around
- but not for long.
