drowning.
a distant sweetness.
an obsession
burning on a
fragile
tongue.
as the sea
rolls
back
and forth
pretending
that he speaks
as his voice
travels
to depths
unknown
to me.
pinpoints of light,
rising to the
surface.
i reach out
my hands
in a hope
he will find them
as the glowing embers
begin to
flicker.
my hearing
and sight
are now submerged
in a
deep
faraway
place.
my lungs are
carressed
by the overwhelming
thoughts
of empty breathing;
empty words.
(the water rises up.
i breathe it in,
gratefully.)

the inferno screaming below the tide
i tastea distant sweetness.
