when I was about 10, my older brother launched a kite that looked to me as though it flew a mile high before tumbling to the ground after the string broke. This little kiddy ditty was inspired by that event.

Sky Battle

I flew a kite into the sky
up up it went so very high
it touched a cloud that was passing by

It dove and dipped as it flew
it danced with the wind as it blew
and watched me from its heavenly view

I held the string really tight
as it bounced to the left and right
I was in an airborne fight

The tail did a bob and weave
I dug in and rolled up my sleeve
and did an over-the-shoulder heave

The kite took off again
it rose upon the master wind
as I watched my twine roll out in a spin

And then a monster gust
caused the twine to bust
and the spritely kite piled into the dust

I fought a battle that day
I had merely gone out to play
but an adventurous kite had its way

The war was a lot of fun
though the battle was not won
I was grateful for the run
