Why must we always want? (a philosophical outlook)

Why must we always want?

Want more and more...
Is it a need we all have to feed our egoistic selves?

Why must we always take and take,

even from the ones who have nothing left to give?

Why is it so that the human being is such a materialistic creature?

We may surround ourselves with things, useless, heartless things and yet, we claim to have found happiness...

While an animal can love you endlessly and ask nothing in return than simply a gentle stroke from your hand showing that you love them back.

Well, I'm sick of wanting to take... I want to give!

Give and give, empty myself from all egocentria.
Yet, I know that no matter how much I want to, I just can't!

It's just our nature.

So, I guess I better go out there and get myself some more...

yes, you make a very good point! for me, the priorities have changed. I get more from poetry (reading and writing) than any objects today but it wasn't always like that!
