The Henry Lawson text by M.A.Meddings
HENRY LAWSON was born near Grenfell, New South Wales, Australia on 17 June 1867. Although he has since become the most acclaimed Australian writer, in his own lifetime his writing was often “on the side”—his “real” work was whatever he could find, often painting houses, or doing rough carpentry. His writing was often taken from memories of his childhood, especially at Pipeclay/Eurunderee. In his autobiography, he states that many of his characters were taken from the better class of diggers and bushmen he knew there. His experiences at this time deeply influenced his work, for it is interesting to note a number of descriptions and phrases that are identical in his autobiography and in his stories and poems. He died in Sydney, 2 September 1922. Much of his writing was for periodicals, and even his regular publications were so varied, including books originally released as one volume being reprinted as two, and vice versa, that the multitude of permutations cannot be listed here. However, the following should give a basic outline of his major works. This preamble is given by the website http://whitewolf.newcastle.edu.au/words/authors/L/LawsonHenry/notes.html

If you think you have seen love poems read this text by Henry Lawson the Australian Bush poet and a contemporary of the celebrated Banjo Patterson, writer of the Australian unofficial anthem ‘Waltzing Matilda’.
The background story to the text is diverse but the most popular theme was that Lawson fell in love with a girl whose family disdained the liaison due to Lawsons lowly prospects.
Lawson was heart broken and returned to the gold diggings to get his fortune and return to find his love.
Her family however had returned to England, to Brighton and Lawson followed in search of his love.
When he eventually caught up with her family he found the girl had died of consumption some three weeks before his arrival in England .
Lawson returned to Australia and then became famous.
If the legend is true I know not but it make a beautiful love story don’t you think.
Now I invite you to read his text all credits due to Lawson’s family and estate
