This has happened millions of times throughout history.
perfectly upon his chest
just at the base of his neck
a solid, muscular nest
Her arms wrapped
around him at his waist
it was narrow there
and easily incased
His hand cradled
her face as it lay next to
his smooth skin so cool
And he whispered I love you
His other hand rubbed
the the small of her back
as she leaned into him
and said, "I'll help you pack"
He sighed and kissed
the top of her head
Turned slightly and
looked at their bed
There they had said
their passionate goodbye
tenderness then came
and later they would cry
They moved apart
dressed in silence and dred
He in his uniform
she, his favorite red
While packing she snuck love
notes from her heart
into his socks,
to bring them close
while they were apart
The children piled
into the car
their daddy was leaving
again, going far
Away, away from
his family once more
It was his country
And freedom he was fighting for
His son, his daughter
the babe his wife carried
It was a dream come true
what he sought when he married
He must make sure
he was all he could be
and did all he could do
so they would be free
And she promised him
she would always true
while he did his duty
she would do hers too
She was proud of
his sacrafice
proud of her soldier
she knew they would pay a price
it's the way of the warrior
Tears glistened
in every eye
as he hugged his family close
and said his final goodbye
He sholdered his pack
his gun and his gear
walked to the plane
turned back and wiped a tear
and gave a final wave
and threw them all a kiss
got on the waiting plane
then flew into heaven's abyss
She felt the babe
inside her stir
as she gathered her children
close to her
God, bless their daddy
she whispered in prayer
then stood and
wiped her final tear
With the strength of
a soldiers wife
she took her children home
and continued life
She did her work
and his work too
at home she did
what she had to do
Across the ocean
in a land far away
her husband faced
death every day
If war was hell
he was there
and Satan was home
defending his lair
The soldier faced
evil each day
but depended on prayers
his wife promised she say
Months passed
and one day back home
a babe was born
and there was a ring on the phone
Hello my love
we have a son
Thank God my sweet
now I must run
I hear gunfire
don't worry though
It sounds far off
I gotta go
Just two weeks old
his son looked down
upon a patch
of sod covered ground
His father lay their
beneath the earth
he fought and died
for freedom's worth
A miliary wife
and her family
again gave a soldier
so others can be free
