Contentment On A Rainy Day
Drowsily, the sky paints gray,Rain keeps falling this long wet day.
A steady pounding on the black street;
It's cold and windy but I escape bleak,
Holed up snugly in my mother's gown
Beneath a comforter of eider down.
A book and hot cocoa keep me company,
As soft lamp light glows beside me.
I hear the cat purr contently at my side,
As a wind gust enlivens leaves that have dried.
Al Green sings softly from the old stereo,
With cracks and scrataches etched years ago.
Thunder rolls distant in the rare winter storm,
And I feel safe and content and at peace and warm.
The room seems like my mother's arms,
And I find sleep beckons with all its charms.
The cloud covered sun says its final goodnight,
And I thank God for the rainy day and all that went right.
