a true story about a veietnam vet Jack. L. Frank

A Hero....

He was a boy when he left for the challenge
of his life,
He took on his shoulder the tears of his new wife,
The journey was to be deaths challenge
he would defeat,
He left with still an innocence
unaware of what to meet.
Many were those who became his friends
but only for a while,
A war had begun
no time to laugh or smile.
These young men fought for our lives
and the future of our off spring
They are our breath when
the national anthem we sing.
His name is Jack, he served for his country
long ago,
To ask him what he endured,
in his eyes a hurt does show,
One moment sharing a story
with his partner on the front line,
The next moment
closing his friends eyes
while holding another partially blind.
Letters stopped coming, fear and dispair
were his best friend,
Never knowing if he'd hug his wife
or see his mother again.
He returned home to a wife who was distant
and rejecting his embrace,
He had returned as a hero,
yet felt out of place...
So many stories to rest from that lingered in his
head,
So many people to miss
in the soilders that were dead.
Home was no longer home,
love did not exist for him there,
excitement returning was soon
wrapped in dispair.
The memories are locked in his soul
too painful to reveal,
In this wonderful man
you'd never know
scars have yet to heal.
What isn't fair is those like Jack that
are forgotten or unappreciated,
Such as the vet without legs
that for hours has waited
In a line of those needing mediication
or a choice,
They deserve priority
For they are Americas voice
A voice so smothered and many times
ignored
Men who don't go unrecognized by our dear Lord.
Makes me wonder if God has a special place
for these heros,
So deserving of honor and appreciation,
For it's a shame they have not truely been recognized
by this entire nation...
