the winter wind
sends swirlings of fallen leaves
around my bare ankles
i look up towards the sky
through the web of blackened branches
standing bare above the world
there is no sun today
it's hidden behind shrouded white
there is but a lighter circle
where the sun should be
hidden from the world
i lower my gaze
to the stretch of road before me
a gray ribbon
cutting through my paradise
