Nancy was a friend and my hairdresser. She chose to close her business in order to care for her ailing husband. I had a byweekly appointment with Nancy and we always found a unique intimacy when we talked of life.
At the frivolities and serendipities of life.
For all the care and listening given non quid pro quo
On accounts tallied against future interest.
For the quiet calming silences made the more so
By the gentle ssssssssnip of grey white locks.
The hummmmmmed clip of tumbling tresses.
For the knowing without asking.
The questions and answers spoken by our eyes.
For the love of stories told and spirits called.
For these we give thanks.
We must move to the ways of others.
Yet our souls are steady on their path.
We will miss our times together yet know they will return
To bless us both with newness and the sameness as before.
For Nancy: a lover of life. On the occasion of moving on. September 17 2003
