This is more rap than poetry, but I kinda like it. It talks about the constraints within modern society and compares it with the old days of the Harlem Renaissance.
Why you n****s keep b****ing at me
Just cuz I'm nice while rockin the AE
But please don't hate me, I pity thee
Since u go to CC, me at the big D
But I ain't criticizing, I gave you nuff 'praisal
Doin something rather than the 5-finger shuffle
But look what they deprive
This machine we live in eats us alive
Gotta have three doctorates just to survive
Why can't it be like the Roaring 20's
When Harlem was at the center of gravity
More irony, cuz these people lived in a fantasy
Utilizing the mind rather than the Benelli
In the bar smoking Ra while listenin to Ma
Bringin the spiritual strength from Africa
N****s rockin their zoots, girls lookin all smooth
Passing wisdom outside the poison in the schools
Talkin bout Garvey and the rise of an era
That jive was too sly for today's inept n***a
Edify these young kats to be something bigger
Put down the liquor and read some Rudolph Fisher
Avoid the jealousy cuz that envy ain't healthy
Praise that brother or sister whose gonna be wealthy
Physically and mentally, helping you and little Molly
perpetuatin the gradual progress from poverty.
