this poem is dedicated to my grandfathers memory for the way he used to tease me about freckle faced girls asking me if i would take them fishing. It was grandfather who taught me how to fish, with a glint in his rogueish eye. I loved him.

Fishin' by M.A.Meddings a repost from last year

And now
Just run that past me again.
She wants you! Just you!!
To take her
Fishin'!!

The gal with freckles?
The one you called
All of those names
Just months ago?
How things have changed
Ah! Ah!
Fishin'?

Well, you did so too
You and your mates
Didn't want her around if I recall
She couldn't play ball
Be such a sin, to let her join in
Now its fishin'!!

Ah! I see.
You've noticed she's changed
Grown up
That's kinda strange
Its what girls tend to do
At about this age
Ah! Ah! Ah! Fishin'!!

Why would I laugh?
Is nothing naff
About this scene
You know what I mean
Don't be so shy
Oh! Dear me
Fishin'

Did you say duty?
Oh! You really meant beauty,
That I can see
But not up to me
I would say pretty
At my age
Fishin!!

So how to relate
Not really a date
And you still don't like girls
All of those curls,
Ooh!
Quite I understand
Its the fishin!!!!

But if that is true
It just wouldn't do
Bit of a waste if that is the case
Those beautiful flowers
Not much use
for the fishin!

Eyes vivid green
Didn't think you had seen
Titian her hair
With freckles to spare
A score I suppose
On the bridge of her nose
O---oh!!
Fishin!

Oh! my this is sad
Such a nice lad
She has you for sure
Her smile is the lure
Such a beautiful state
don't underate
The depth of this trap
Oh! Fishin!!

Would you run that again
Whilst I count to ten
She is wearing a dress!!!
So where is the stress?
Oh I see what you mean
It's the fishin!!

Well don't worry well see
What is meant to be
You out on a hook
And she is the cook
Best you forget
Any fishin!!!

Such a warm, wonderful relationship you shared with your grandfather! I never knew my grandparents beyond the pictures in my albums... or the stories my parents relate.

Michael, I love this glimpse into you and your grandfather's relationship. This is a poem full of fond memories and fun. I could just see you with your pole standing next to your grandfather and wishing he would stop all that teasing. But, all the while you admired him for being so wise and wouldn't trade a moment of the time spent with him. These types of memories are truly to be treasured.
