The Fair Rose Of Albany by M.A.Meddings
The spring was new ere then i walked
In beauties radiant gleam
And I saw her smile on distant shores
Was I fool and apt to dream
Could I yet win this lady fair
Once more on bended knee
For there was nought a flower so rare
As the Rose of Albany
Yet though I wandered in the west
In search of treasures told
In the rocky Peaked Montana Fall
I lay in search of gold
But had I known Indiana plains
There lived but one as she
Her beauty rare beyond compare
The sweet Rose of Albany
Yet the war that took this nation on
As brother fought and sad
Fort Sumpters guns coughed of their spite
When I was ought a lad
And ere I rode in Shermans hordes
Through Georgia to the sea
One vision mine to keep me sane
The Rose of Albany
Then peace came on in Lincolns way
Unite the nation pleas
Play me Dixie to a man
Spare not your breath said he
And the band played on The rebel song
There was none as fair as she
And on steed of might I took to find
Fair Rose of Albany
And she was fair as the stories gave
My heart was taken thus
For I fell in love in helpless state
No love there deeper was
So I took her hand in lovers stroll
by the banks of Jacksons stream
And lay her down on verdant ground
The fair Rose of Albany
