Solitary Child

In silence she stares, watching
Tight lipped and fearless on her own.
Remembering the days
When colour began to shred and fall
Around her narrow feet.

She enters a world alone, her world
Of hidden misfortunes.
She is rigid; half knowing what is there.
Murmuring screams echo through faces,
Pieces of the past become raw flashes.

Swallowed by pain and incandescent night,
I walk in dread and feel cold,
Eating me up inside.
My rough tears scar frozen cheeks,
While memories are still clear.

She folds in fright, slumped
In the corner beholding truth
Of the reality that made her alone
And of those who did it.
