Romance by stealth
Into the forest rode one daya man whose heart burned with desire
and all creation bowed to him.
His words set all the world afire!
Rich scents and sounds did blaze his way.
The breezes carried fine, his bliss
and every creature trembled there
and yearned to capture close his kiss.
Enchant the forest, if you will.
Move quietly and thereby win
a faery princess in the glade
whose sweet embrace will draw you in.
Into the forest rode one day
a poet who cast forth his smile
and conquered all with words so dear
and blessed the forest mile on mile.
Dear friends... The poet, Rob Graber, and I have participated in an exercise that we wish to share with you. I read one of Rob's poems and suggested that I would like to imprint my sense of music, colors, scents, and tastes to his poem. I did so and he liked it! I invited him to do the same to this poem of mine! This is what Rob says about my poem, which you find above:
Well, the first stanza is red orange and a trumpet blares a hunting or martial song. The taste is of hearty wheat beer. Everything is "heady."
Stanza two is light blue, and the music is maybe the Milhaud woodwinds I've been listening to lately, with complex but not overpowering/incomprehensible texture. I could use a drink of water here...
Stanza 3 has a lightly fluttering solo flute or piccolo, and in color is definitely... lavender!!! Tastewise it is a Mountain Dew (Diet), though pink lemonade looks better...
Stanza 4 is forest green, and I hear serene passages from Beethoven's Sixth. It smells of evergreens and makes me hungry for a tossed salad with lots of garlicky dressing (Seven Seas Creamy Italian is my favorite) and fresh ground pepper.
So what do you think???
Rob, I love your ideas for what you feel in my poem! We must invite our poet friends here at Poetbay to join us in having such fun! Let us go deeper into appreciating each other's poetry by applying what we feel as we imagine music, colors, sounds, taste, and scents as we read poetry! Shall we call this activity "Sensory imprinting?"
When you apply all your senses to a poem you imprint your poetic soul to that work. It is a wonderful investment in artistry, allowing you to achieve a deeper connection with poetry.
